Be wary of friends — they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused to envy.

From my experience with people whom I called friends, I could say all that was discussed in chapter two is sadly true.

They are easily aroused with envy. Even the little things can shake them up.

It is only those who are in charge of their emotions or love you that can ignore the feeling of envy.

The chapter went on to say “You have more to fear from friends than from enemies. If you have no enemies, find a way to make them”.

The story that moved me in the chapter was the one that staked his future on the sense of gratitude. He thought he found a friend because of what this person did for him. So he gave him everything. But later, the one who made a decision based on a sense of gratitude realized that he made a big mistake. He realized that people often forget the favors they have received and imagine they have earned their success by their own merits.

Men are more ready to repay an injury than a benefit because gratitude is a burden and revenge a pleasure.

The problem is that we often do not know our friends as well as we imagine. Friends often agree on things to avoid an argument. They cover up…
